TaylorMade has released its updated P-Series lineup of irons, with input from some of the best players in the world. The P-Series includes the muscleback P•7MB, muscle-cavity P•7MC, and the more distance-driven P770. Despite the lack of visible technology, these irons offer a wealth of technological features. The irons are forged from 1025 carbon steel and feature machine-milled faces with aggressive grooves. Additionally, the P•7MC and P•7MB irons have a compact grain forging process that uses up to two to three times the pressure normally used in forged irons. The additional force decreases the grain size to improve the overall properties of the metal, making the clubs more precise and repeatable.
The MB was designed with a narrower sole geometry based on feedback from tour professionals, including Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa. The shorter blade length of the MB also allowed for an updated backbar, which places more mass directly behind the face to enhance feel. Meanwhile, the P•7MC maintains its blade length but now features a slimmer topline, providing golfers with the look and feel of a tour-level iron.
The P770 has received feedback from Tiger Woods himself, who suggested less offset in the 3- through 6-irons. The use of tungsten in the irons changes mass and position throughout the clubs. A lower CG makes it easier to launch the ball, which is beneficial for players who need help in the long irons. The iron also features a thinner forged face, the thinnest of any P Series iron ever, as well as a speed pocket and a lower-density polyurethane foam injected inside the clubhead, providing a pleasing sensation at impact and saving weight to redistribute for off-center hits.
The three P-Series irons are available for pre-order and will ship on January 20, 2023. Each iron is priced at $186, with a set of seven irons priced at $1,300 in steel. The TaylorMade P-Series irons are ideal for advanced golfers seeking precision, feel, and distance control, making them a perfect addition to any golfer’s bag.
