According to Golf Channel Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage event without providing any reason, following his missed cut at the Masters Tournament, which marked his sixth start in the last nine weeks. McIlroy has only played in the Heritage event twice before, finishing in 41st place in 2020 and 58th place in 2009. Other players such as Jason Day, Alex Noren, and Will Zalatoris have also withdrawn from the event, with Zalatoris announcing that he will miss the rest of the season due to back surgery.
McIlroy previously missed the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this year, which is his second missed designated event, potentially jeopardizing his Player Impact Program (PIP) money. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan requires an excused absence, such as an injury, for players to skip designated events, or else they risk losing part of their PIP payout from the previous year. In 2022, McIlroy finished second on the PIP list, which is valued at $12 million, and the money is paid out to players in installments throughout the year.
