Full List of all previous Masters Tournament champions – and the history!

The Masters Tournament, also known simply as The Masters, is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. It is held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, United States. Here is a brief history of The Masters golf tournament:

The tournament was established in 1934 by golf legend Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts. They were looking for a way to showcase the newly-built Augusta National Golf Club and decided to create a tournament that would bring the best golfers in the world to the course.

The first Masters Tournament was held in March 1934 and was won by Horton Smith. It was initially called the Augusta National Invitational Tournament, but the name was changed to The Masters in 1939.

The tournament was suspended from 1943 to 1945 due to World War II, but it resumed in 1946 with Byron Nelson as the winner. The Masters has been held every year since then, making it one of the longest-running golf tournaments in history.

Over the years, The Masters has become known for its traditions, including the green jacket awarded to the winner, the ceremonial tee shot by honorary starters, and the Champions Dinner held the Tuesday before the tournament.

Some of the most famous moments in golf history have occurred at The Masters, such as Jack Nicklaus’ comeback victory in 1986 and Tiger Woods’ record-breaking win in 1997. The tournament has also produced some of the sport’s greatest champions, including Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Phil Mickelson.

Today, The Masters remains one of the most highly anticipated events on the golf calendar, drawing thousands of fans and the world’s best golfers to Augusta each year.
